Who We Are

Woman's Missionary Union, Auxiliary to South Carolina Baptist Convention℠, exists to empower churches and believers to participate in the Great Commission. We exist to equip churches, especially its members--women and men, girls and boys and preschoolers--to discover and live out their missions call. We are available to equip churches in beginning and strengthening missions discipleship for all ages, preschool through adults, and with the churchwide audience.

The first Central Committee in the South, the forerunner to South Carolina WMU, was organized at Society Hill in 1875. South Carolina WMU was organized in 1902 in Greenville, South Carolina. Since its inception, the sole purpose of the organization has been missions. Throughout the years, organization names have changed, new ministries have begun, but the missions message has remained the same.

South Carolina WMU continues to seek innovative and creative ways to involve more individuals, families, groups, and churches in missions by helping them find their place in missions, and passing on that passion for missions to future generations.

Our Vision

Empowering churches and believers to participate in fulfilling the Great Commisson.

Our Motives

Biblically Rooted

Scripture guides us in knowing God, His ways, His character, His mission, His redemptive acts, and His purpose for the Church.

Missions Focused

Jesus commissioned His disciples to proclaim the good news, disciple people of all nations, and teach them to live out the truths he taught.

World Aware

God is always work among all peoples, and we join Him where we can discern He is calling us.

Church Based

Jesus gave the Church authority to act on His behalf. Teaching all ages prepares the Church to fulfill His mission.

Denominationally Supportive

No one church can do alone what many churches can do together. Our voluntary cooperation extends the missions reach of a local church.

Our Mandate

Making disciples of Jesus who live on mission.

Our Characteristics

Missions is defined as the work of God through His people—the Church—by which the gospel of Jesus Christ is extended in word and deed to all the people in the world.

These characteristics offer a complete and holistic approach to missions discipleship. Persons and/or churches can begin with any of these characteristics to grow as a missions disciple. And as appropriate for the age-level, these characteristics are the basis for missions experiences provided through each WMU missions discipleship age-level group.
