My name is Abigail Hastings and I am a senior at NGU. I was given the opportunity to serve as a panelist two times and it was truly one of my most memorable experiences I have had. My first time on the panel, I was the youngest to be chosen and to be honest, I was a little out of my comfort zone. My platform that year was “how we as young students can be assured of our role in God’s plan.” Over the course of that year I was able to be more aware of what God was calling me to do. It was truly a learning experience, and one that has followed me to where I am now. Both of my times on the panel I met some amazing people. Some of my fellow panelists and I are still very close friends and we talk often. Being a panelist is not only a way for you to meet people that you will have a lasting friendship with, but you also meet some amazing teens. Being on the panel you have the opportunity to be a positive role model for young men and women. You get the opportunity to work alongside churches and leaders so that we as a group can spread the gospel.
Being a panelist truly shaped me as a person. I was pushed out of the comfort zone that I had built for myself. God really used this time to grab my attention and my heart for missions. I always wanted to be a missionary, but I had to first learn how to share the gospel with those around me. Now almost nine years later that heart for missions has only grown. I will soon be graduating and heading out to a country that God has placed on my heart for many years, I just had to be assured of my role in God’s plan.
I strongly urge anyone who is thinking about joining the panel to do so. You will learn so many things, meet amazing people, and be able to grow deeper in God’s love. I loved my time being a part of this wonderful missions opportunity. I hope that you will be able to step out and let God lead you through this. I am praying that God has called one of you to step out of your comfort zone and be used by Him. It will be one of the best decisions you will make.
