Principles for Growth

  • Growth is to be undergirded with prayer.
  • To accomplish WMU growth, one must be true to the vision and purpose.
  • People use their spiritual gifts and strengths through involvement in WMU/missions education.
  • There must be a commitment to grow that leads to an expectancy of growth.
  • Growth includes enlistment and enlargement.
  • Organizations must meet at times and places that people can attend and offer many avenues of missions involvement.
  • Growth requires adequate resources and appropriate number of leaders.
  • Growth requires trained leadership.
  • Growth demands effective communication.
  • Networking/Linking is important in starting new organizations.
  • All churches need missions education.

Quality and Quantity Growth

Review this information regularly to help increase the quantity and quality of your WMU.

  • What is the focus of your WMU? Is it missions?
  • Make sure each leader in your WMU attends associational or state training.
  • Order the appropriate magazines for all of your WMU organizations.
  • Evaluate when and where missions education could happen in your church, and see if you need to add more organizations or groups.
  • Check all the ways you publicize WMU in your church. Would persons not familiar know why, when, where and who can attend each of these missions opportunities?
  • Do each of your WMU organizations regularly have some way to reach those who are not involved?
  • Are leaders regularly reporting?
  • Is your WMU planning in advance and making sure events are scheduled with the church calendar?
  • Do you include new types of mission action projects to try to involve more persons in missions?
  • When was the last time your church had a Bible study on missions or a spiritual gifts inventory?
